We have decided to 'forklift upgrade' our system and the ks929 will no longer be necessary in our environment.
My question is, with little investment of time and $, can the ks929 be useful to us in some other capacity?
If I wanted to sell the hardware, what should I do to make it more valuable? I was thinking about doing the 9000 conversion, but what would that do in terms of value?
Has anyone sold one of these units recently, and if so, for how much?
Thanks for the assistance...hate to see this thing become a paperweight.

The HP3000 serie 929KS/030 server can be converted to an HP9000 K-class server.
If you want to have a feel what it involves, have a look at the "HP e3000 Series 9x9 to HP 9000 K-Class Conversion Manual" that is available in PDF format at http://docs.hp.com/hpux/pdf/A3468-90001.pdf
You may want to talk to your local HP office for further assistance.
Thanks - I was just looking at those. I feel comfortable in doing the conversion (especially since I am not trying to migrate any applications or data) so the real question for me is, is it worth doing so?
I'm hoping for a response in terms of value and functionality (whether for resale or internal use). In other words, is there anyone who would actually go out and buy a converted 9000 today, or is it really only valuable to those with an existing investment.
If your goal to convert the the HP3000 s929/020 to an HP9000 K-class server is to get some money back, here are some informations you may want to be aware of:
The s929KS/030 will be most likely converted to an HP9000 K420 server; the Kx20 is an PA7200 first introduced on Mar 1996; it has been discontinued (end of sale) on Sep 1998; the obsolete date (end of support) is Jun 2005. It is tested to run on HP-UX OS releases 10.20, 11.x (32 Only).
I guess you need to evaluate the cost of the conversion kit vs the selling price of the unit. The conversion kit number is A3468A option #080 (converts a 929KS/0x0 to a K420).
If the conversion is not worthful, you may want to sell the unit in seprate pieces: the storage units, memory, UPS, etc...or, make a donation to a school of your area!
