I am using a deskjet 5550 under Win98se. I have a USB connection and have installed driver 7.1 (home version). I would like to print in Black and White- not in Grey Scale. By this, I mean that I would like all colors, including grey, to print black. Is this possible? thanks....rlaph

I personally don't know of a driver that can do that. If the choice isn't in your driver's properties, you're stuck with what you got. |

Yes, in the driver select preferences, color, "print in grayscale" and then check the "black print cartridge only" box.

Bob, unless I'm misunderstanding...he's saying he wants all colors, including gray, to print black. Far as I know, any colors will come out in some form of gray. But like I said, don't know what's on the driver for that printer. |

Ken is correct. I would like all colors, including grey to print as black. The problem is that many web sites and Acrobat files make extensive use of grey which looks great on the CRT but is difficult to read when printed. I seem to remember that some Inkjets in the past had an option to do what I want- but perhaps my memory is playing tricks on me. regards.....ralph |

Zero points? OK, please read my previous answer. I *do* know what the driver does, and if the directions are followed you will get the desired result.
With the "print in grayscale" and "black cartridge only" selections are made the printer will print all colors with the black cartrdige.

Bob: Thanks for your reply. However, selecting grey scale does just that and I don't want grey scale- just full black for all colors (including grey) and no ink for white areas. regards....ralph |

If I understand this right you want clear black/white only and no greyscales.
The only option I know of for doing this right away is using PowerPoint.
When you use PowerPoint you have the option when printing slides to select one of 3 options:
Color Grayscale Pure Black and White
I guess the "Pure Black and White" is the option you are seeking.
This is an application option though, and not functionality normally found in printer drivers.

Hi Ralph
Try this:
1. Open the Printer Assistant. Then, click in Tools and Updates option. Click in Printer Maintenance and choose Set Printer. 2. Click in Set again and modify the option Two ink Cartridges to One black ink cartridge. 3. Click in OK and close this window. 4. Try to print.
Hope this helps
Regards

Fabio: Thanks for your reply but you may be referring to Printer Assistant for a different printer. My Printer Assistant does not have an Tools button and there is, as far as I can tell, no Set Printer button. regards....ralph |
