I have heard that the OA can now handle a USB DVD drive, I am at firmware 2.02 and I have a Sony DRX-S50U and the OA does not seem to see the Drive from the webpage. Anyone running in to this problem or am I missing a step?

Hello,
You can connect the USB dvd-drive to OA USB port and boot server from that media.Try mounting the DVD drive to servers with OA GUI or LCD screen.
I am sure u have connected it to the port which was under a sticker which reads "Reserved for future use".
USB DVD drive support for OA was included in firmware release 2.01; refer: http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/revision/9694.html
2.02 is great & this will work;
If not possible, what is the error ??

Hello,
The HP BladeSystem c3000 enclosure includes a DVD drive that is installed into the front of the enclosure, while the c7000 provides an option for a DVD/CD-ROM driver that plugs into the rear of the enclosure. The drive can be used by a single blade or by all blades simultaneously to perform software installations and updates in the same way a standard DVD drive is used in a computer system. The c3000 DVD drive is not "connected" to any blades in the enclosure after initial installation. To use the DVD drive, an administrator must first "connect" the DVD drive to any or all blades through the Onboard Administrator or by using the built-in Insight Display. From the blade's perspective, connecting the DVD drive is analogous to connecting a USB DVD drive to the blade. A subsequent "detach" disconnects the DVD drive from the USB bus.

I removed the sticker that was covering the USB port and I plugged in the DVD drive (that works from the front of the BL460c) and went to the GUI for the OA and tried to assign the DVD drive but it listed as no media present in drive, but there is a bootable cd in it. So that prevents me from assigning it. |

Hi,
YOu mention LCD is working fine. But the LCD screen You have attached doesn't show it.
Can you please check Go to the Main Menu in LCD. Select enclosure settings. YOu should be getting no media for the bays in which you have serves and absent for the bays in which you don't have servers. If you see No Media Drive was not recognized by OA. Please refer to screen shot.
Try to connect using LG or HP USB-drives if you have any.

Hi,
You can try this from CLI Telnet or ssh to OA.
Below is the command.
SET SERVER DVD [ CONNECT | DISCONNECT ] [ ALL | <bay number>{[ , | - ] <bay number>}]: Connect or disconnect the specified server or range of servers from the enclosure DVD drive. DISCONNECT will detach any URL in addition to "Enclosure DVD".

My problem is fixed, When you add a DVD/CD drive to the OA, the three things you will need to do is: 1. put a cd/dvd in the unit(needs to be in unit) 2. select the 'Refresh' button at the bottom of the screen, this will re-detect the device. 3. select at least 1 server before you select the 'DVD' button(other wise they will be greyed out) |

When I try to add my DVD-drive into our C3000 enclosure it doesn't detect the drive.
OA-001A4BEFFC31> set server dvd connect all
Bay 1 - No DVD media or DVD drive present. Bay 2 is empty. Bay 3 is empty. Bay 4 is empty. Bay 5 - No DVD media or DVD drive present. Bay 6 is empty. Bay 7 is empty. Bay 8 is empty.
When you put the DVD drive into the C3000 you can see it is provided with power. I also put a DVD bootable media in it but to no avail. Also via the display I cannot add the DVD drive to one or more bays. |

Just for information. After powering off the complete C3000 enclosure and rebooting again we saw that the DVD drive was detected this time.
However the DVD-drive was already installed when we first booted the server with all hardware mounted (switches, psu, fans, blades and dvd-drive). |

I used a Memorex DVD-RW which worked fine with a C7000.
Does or will this process support a USB stick? It didn't seem to work for me. |

No you cant use a USB stick, just can connect a DVD/CD drive. I tried it my self when tring the new DVD function, it never finds it. It would be function for HP to add. |

Hi Ervinck,
You mentioned that you have to re power the C300 to make DVD work.
In case if the DVD is not recognized by OA, Remove the OA and Insert the OA it will work fine.
There is no need for re powering the Enclosure.
This happens if the OA is not seated properly.
