Ram:

Backweb Lite, AFAIK, is a piece of spyware. Run Ad-Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy to rid you computer of spyware. There are free versions of each one.

Actually Backweb client is installed along with HP Center application. It does not do any harm to your computer.

Customers might get any of the following errors might occur at startup:

Invalid BackWeb application id "137903"

Could not load the target dll ("C:\Program Files\BackWeb\BackWeb Client\6.1.0.153\Program\BackWeb.dll", error code 126)

The cause for this is as follows:
If the you run "Spybot" (a commonly used spyware software) on an HP PC which has "hp center" installed on it, and allow Spybot to remove what it calls "BackWeb lite", Spybot will effectively remove the "C:\Program Files\BackWeb" directory and quite a few registry entries.
However, Spybot does not do "a good job" as it leaves the shortcuts that start "hp center" during startup. Because of that, anyone using Spybot will start seeing the following error in a small "Runner Error" dialog box during startup:

Invalid BackWeb application id "137903"

If the user then tries to revert his deed and uses the recovery option of Spybot, it (Spybot) fails to restore the environment to its previous state. In particular, Spybot will not restore the files from "C:\Program Files\BackWeb" to their original location. As a result, during the next startup, the following error message will appear in a dialog box under the title "Runner Error":

Could not load the target dll ("C:\Program Files\BackWeb\BackWeb Client\6.1.0.153\Program\BackWeb.dll", error code 126)

This error message may appear more than once during startup.

Resolution:

1. Click Start, Run
2. Type MSCONFIG
3. Click OK
4. Click STARTUP
5. Uncheck the checkboxes for ActivSurf (backweb*****.exe), BackWeb (backweb.exe), hp center (BACKWEB-137903.exe), HPCENTER UI, Kodak Software Updater (backweb*****.exe), LDM (backweb-8876480.exe or ldmconf.exe) if any of them are listed
6. Click OK
7. Restart the system

If you are getting a message "System Configuration Utility You are using the selective startup for troubleshooting your system", I suggest you check the check box in that windows and click OK. This occurs if you are using the Selective startup option and not using the normal startup to reduce the number of startup programs.

BackWeb is a generic, background downloading tool that software vendors can incorporate into their product to download data (e.g. product updates) to the user's PC. Its operation depends on the instructions given to it by the individual software vendor who bundles it.
BackWeb is a communications program whereby a large amount of users may be contacted in an instant. Communications from the client may be delivered to the server for assimilation into a collection point for further processing.

You can remove this using some good spyware removal tools.

regards
SK
