Author Subject: HP DVD Express Software & Microsoft Netmeeting      Add to my favorites
Joel D. Meadows

I have found that the HP DVD software (HPF2015-12002, v1.0) will not function properly when the Microsoft Netmeeting services are running on systems loaded with Windows 2000 Professional. The program will open, but a DVD cannot be played without an error. The specific error message is "DVDExpress DVD Player: Unable to create video window. Please try altering your display settings" Once you disable the Netmeeting service and re-logon, the DVD will play. Enable the service, and it won't play. A screeshot of the error message is attached. Can anyone provide any insight to this issue?

Thanks,

Joel:

Do you have DMA enabled for the DVD drive?

BTW, there is some limited information on National Mediamatics' website (but I could find no match for NetMeeting).

Do you have BIOS v7.09 installed (or newer)? If not, go to http://www.hp.com/cposupport/D_index7/hpomnibook20053_6.html
and follow the links.

Hope this helps.

I think I gave you a bogus BIOS version number. Everything you need should be at http://www.hp.com/cposupport/swindexes/hpomnibook20053_swen.html
(Windows 2000, BIOS, and Utility sections). Good luck!

I figured it out. NetMeeting and DVD playback both need the Overlay Mixer filter to run properly, but only one app at a time can access the Overlay Mixer. If remote desktop sharing is enabled or NetMeeting is running, you cannot play a DVD.
