Our 3 year old cp1700 printer has become near useless due to a problem with the printheads. It has been used for colour autocad/photos and letters.
It asks for the printheads to be replaced after every second or third print. After opening and shutting the printhead door it will print a couple of sheets, but with poor quality, banding and blocks of colour printed at random on the page, streaks etc.... Even after replacing with brand new printheads, it asks for them to be replaced straight away, without printing anything at all. opening and shutting the printhead door gets things moving all printheads are within date. Tried setting up on a different computer and OS system (XP and win2000) - no difference. optdid all the cleaning ions and firmware upgrades...
The printer can just about be used for letters (black ink only) but even with these some light blue shadowing occur sometimes......any ideas?

Hello

I have one year ago the same problem i have changed the flex cables it isnt work, after that i change the carriage assembly, because the PCA Board on the carriage assy was defective. But the you can't buy the board - you must buy the carriage assy includes the Flex cables and drive belt the number of the part is C8108-67009 (thats the number to order in switzerland) but i think it is the same in your country.
Excuse me my english is not verry :-)

Did you replace the printheads or the ink supplies? You may diagnose the printheads with the procedure at: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&objectID=bpd50272&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN
