Author Subject: Pavilion DV2620US - XP installation and drivers SOLUTION      Add to my favorites
Aaron Kaase
Dec 11, 2007 05:31:41 GMT

I bought this DV2620US laptop at Circuit City last Wednesday. It's got the NVIDIA and AMD Turion TL-58 for chipset+video and CPU respectively. I immediately blew away Vista Home Premium and got XPSP2 up and running beautifully with the following drivers.

Thanks to the Internet community and the power of Google, I compiled everything I did and am sharing it here to save someone else the hassle of digging. This guide assumes you know how to edit .inf files and understand file/folder (directory) structure.

The drivers I point to are the most current I could find out there as of this writing. The NVIDIA stuff was somewhat hard to find! I think a lot of work was done by making NVIDIA driver necessary to get the drivers running beautifully on the 7150M/630 platform.

1.  NVIDIA nForce Chipset Driver:
http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/nForce/14.10/14.10_nforce_630a_winxp_english_whql.exe (69.4M)

2. nVidia video drivers for the GeForce Go 7150M. This driver came from here:
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/GRAPHICS-BOARD/NVIDIA/NVIDIA-32bit-ForceWare-GeForce-Go-15655.shtml (37MB)

3. Install the Microsoft UAA sound driver:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp33501-34000/sp33566.exe (54.24M)

4. Conexant HD audio, download/run:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp35501-36000/sp35682.exe (1.39M)

The installation will fail! You will get the error, "Driver Installation Failed: Could not find the MEDIA device for this driver." Click OK to dismiss the error. Next follow these important sub-steps to point this driver to the right hardware address:

4-1. Open Device Manager (Window+Pause, Hardware tab, Device Manager button).

4-2. Find the category "Other Devices" with the yellow question mark. These are detected devices without drivers.

4-3. In the list you should see "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus". Double-click to open its properties.

4-4. Click the Details tab.

4-5. Click drop-down and choose "Hardware Ids", second from top of list.

4-6. Note the strings. Mine listed HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_14F1&DEV_5045&SUBSYS_103C30D6

4-7. Open C:\SwSetup\SP35682 folder created by the Softpaq extraction.

4-8. Open the wis30B2a.inf file with notepad. Find the [Conexant] section in the file. Mine looked like this:

[Conexant]
%HdAudioFunctionDriver.Waikiki5047.DeviceDesc% = HdAudModel,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_14F1&DEV_5047&SUBSYS_103C30B2 ;Vega 1.0, 1.1
%HdAudioFunctionDriver.Waikiki5047.DeviceDesc% = HdAudModel,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_14F1&DEV_5047&SUBSYS_103C30A5 ;Titan/Altima, Thrifty
%HdAudioFunctionDriver.Waikiki5047.DeviceDesc% = HdAudModel,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_14F1&DEV_5047&SUBSYS_103C30A0 ;Jakarta 3

4-9. Change all the strings starting with HDAUDIO so it matches the string you found in step 4-6. For example:

[Conexant]
%HdAudioFunctionDriver.Waikiki5047.DeviceDesc% = HdAudModel,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_14F1&DEV_5045&SUBSYS_103C30D6 ;Vega 1.0, 1.1
%HdAudioFunctionDriver.Waikiki5047.DeviceDesc% = HdAudModel,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_14F1&DEV_5045&SUBSYS_103C30D6 ;Titan/Altima, Thrifty
%HdAudioFunctionDriver.Waikiki5047.DeviceDesc% = HdAudModel,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_14F1&DEV_5045&SUBSYS_103C30D6 ;Jakarta 3

4-10. Save wis30B2a.inf.

4-11. Now double click the setup.exe file in the C:\SwSetup\SP35682 folder. You should now get an INSTALL wizard. Click OK.

4-12. You may see a few notifications that the "software has not passed Windows Logo testing". Just click "Continue Anyway".

4-13. Eventually you should get the wizard dialog back with a SUCCESS message. Click OK.

You should now be able to get sound from those Altec Lansing speakers!

5. Support for Conexant HDAUDIO Soft Data Fax Modem with SmartCP Driver. Download/Run:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp36501-37000/sp36610.exe (10.76M)

6.  ALPS Touchpad Pointing Device Driver, download/run:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp30001-30500/sp30144.exe (3.42M)

7. Support for Broadcom Wireless LAN Driver, download/run:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp36501-37000/sp36684.exe (6.29M)

8. Support for the HP Integrated Module with Bluetooth Wireless Technology, download/run:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp34501-35000/sp34842.exe (94.6MB)

9. HP software for the web cam on the LCD bezel, download/run:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp35001-35500/sp35414.exe (5.1MB)

I think that's pretty much it! Make sure to check your Device Manager to ensure there aren't any outstanding devices that require drivers.

Now keep your new notebook pristine!

I picked up a neoprene sleeve off eBay for $12, which I slide this baby into first, then put that into my messenger bag. This combo keeps the laptop's finish very well-protected.

Also, I seriously recommend a full-size microfiber cloth which can be found for a few bucks at a store like Target. This cloth is fantastic at dry-wiping oily fingerprints and smudges on electronics, glass, and other glossy surfaces without leaving lint or fibers behind. For the stubborn smudges, use a half-water half-vinegar solution and just barely moisten the soiled area while rubbing vigorously with the microfiber cloth.

Happy Holidays everyone!

Hi Aaron,

Thanks for the great info!... I have installed all the drivers except for three more "Base Devices". I have searched all over HP site but could'nt figure it out.

Can let me know which are those three base devices so that I can narrow down my search query to that particular driver.

Hey Hanu, I had the same problem, and when I installed the driver located here:

http://totallydrivers.com/device.php?id=122292

all three went away. Let me know if that works for you too.

P.S. Aaron, thanks for the post, it was a huge life saver for me. Thanks for taking the time to put it here.

You guys notice that with this audio driver hack when you plug in your headphones it doesn't turn off the laptop speakers? Anyone know how to fix that?

I'm having the same problem with my sound drivers. I also have to readjust the volume each time I restart windows or come back from hibernation. I've tried what little I could think of, but I can't figure out what's wrong either.

Yes, I also have noticed this problem. The actual volume of the laptop is being controlled by the "wave" volume button. I also noticed that in the device manager it shows two sets of keyboard inputs.

The first one says:

HID Keyboard Device
Manufacturer: Standard Keyboard
Location: on HP Quick Launch Buttons

and the second one:

Standard 101/102-key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard with HP QLB
Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard Development Company L.P.
Location: plugged into keyboard port.

Which is the correct one and which should is the wrong one? I believe that there are two keyboard inputs and hence the (actual) volume is being controlled by one of them. The problem is I dunno know which one of them is the correct one. Are others having similar config/problem??

Thanks for the info, I will try downloading it and see if that works and let you know. I also have another problem :-)

It seems that my firewire port is not functioning properly. I have a JVC DV camera and I tried connecting it via the firewire port. Nothing is being detected. I tried connecting it using my friend's desktop PC and it detects perfectly.

I would like to know if there is any solution for this problem. Many people in this forum has also complained about similar issues.

I have Via OHCI Compliant IEEE firewire port with the latest driver installed. I tried everything (different softwares to detect the camera) but nothing seems to work. I would be glad if anyone has a solution for this problem.

I have a HP pavilion dv2620us notebook (dv2000 series)

The headphone problem was solved with the sp32400.exe, now, when i connect the phone, the speaker turns out and when i remove the sounds goes back to the speakers.

I have 3 more problems:

first - HP Webcam: i used the sp35414.exe file. It worked. But the image is very very dark. I donno what happned.

second - Quick Launch Buttons: i got the QLB.zip and QPW.zip and installed both. When i press the quick play button, nothing works. The same happens to the DVD and play touck sensitive buttons (blue ones). When i pressed the play button (blue one) on vista, the media player openned and started playing the music at execution list. Now it does not work like this anymore. When i open by clicking at media player icon and press play( blue button) it starts to play.

third - when my notebook goes to sleep mode, it never wakes up. Not anithing i do turns it on again.

For the rest, my computer is running like a charm.

I have installed the framework.net for installing HP battery check software. But i wonder if there is some power plan like i used to find at vista.

This forum really helped at this downgrade.

Thanks a lot everyone who contributed for the downgrade and turning our life better without windows vista.

Hope u all have some answer for my 3 problems related above.

Hey Cheryl,

Is the software QLB & QPW is for the sound card? because it works fine now, should I install it anyways or just leave it as it is?

Also does anyone found any solution to this firewire problem? or is it because I switched to XP from Vista???
Chad Carpenter
Jan 4, 2008 18:25:16 GMT    Unassigned

The QLB & QPW files are the Quick Launch Button and Quick Play programs. They work better then the others, in that the Quick launch program actually runs with them, the function key shortcuts work, and the quick play program works fine, but the "quick launch" and "DVD" touch buttons still won't work. The wireless controller will open the programs that I have set for them to open, but the touch buttons still won't open them. It is a step forward though.

If anyone knows how to make those two touch buttons work, please let us know how.

i have 3 base system devices that are not installed.

and i am also having a hard time finding drivers for my 64bit system. when i view web pages and scroll down my video is extremlly sluggish.

any advise would be greatly appreciated. i have been trying everything short of reinstalling xp 32bit.

Using the Fingerprint Reader in XP on a dv2000 (dv2620)

To get the fingerprint driver to work and to install for software to login using a fingerprint you need to do 3 things:

The first is a bit sneaky. You need to download a softpac for your laptop for Vista (I know we're talking about XP, just stick with me a second). I used the Vista Bluetooth driver softpac for my dv2620 as an example. When you run this patch it lists in the release notes all the computers that the pack applies to, including the dv2620. But more importantly it lists about 8 other models, presumably based on similar hardware, e.g. the same motherboard. My list included (2510p, 2710p, 6510b, 6710b, 6710s, 6715b, 6715s, 8710p, 8710w & nx6330). Copy the list of similar laptops and cancel the installation of the Vista driver on your XP laptop.

Step 2. Go to the any of the other laptops on the HP driver site and Huzzar! there's lots of XP drivers, including all of the ones missing from the dv2620 site (which really only has the Vista drivers). To get the Authentec fingerprint device working I downloaded 1.10D of sp39199.exe. This works a treat. Installed this and did the usual reboot. I now can see an Authentec device in my hardware profile in the control panel.

Step 3. To install the software that allows you to log-in using a fingerprint I did some more digging for XP drivers for the other laptops in my list and found: 2.1 of the VeriSoft software as sp35640.exe. This claims to be only got Vista, but I'm an inquisitive type of person and Huzzar! it installs.

I'm not connected to a Domain or Active Directory, so I was able to give a password to my log-in and then associate a fingerprint scan with this.

I'm still playing with the option in control panel / power options / ask for password on resume. This might solve my small issue that wehn I put my laptop into hibernation any one can restart it and it doesn't ask for a password.

Bootnote: I just talked to my buddy on the inside who said the internal IT guys have banned all tools that login to the HP/EDS network using fingerprints. I think they've been reading too much Dan Brown, what are the "baddies" going to do: chop off my finger and log in with it?

Don't know if this is the appropriate place, however, I understood this post more than the others. I don't have a problem of not detecting a touchpad. I have a problem of a touch pad being dedected and there isn't one.

XP64 Pro
Asus A8nSLI Premium
Pimped out
Always keep drivers up to date.

I know it's an old system, but it is a good one. Now how do I get it to understand I don't have a touchpad?

Thanks.

Ok I did that whole setup last year, never had issues, however recently the sound just started to come from both the pc and the earphone jack (external speakers). I can't seem to mute the pc speakers without cutting all the sound out.
I tried rolling back the drivers, uninstalling them and re-installing them with all the tuning changes as before...but to no avail.
Anyone have the same issue?
