Hi everybody,
I just bought a new Compaq Presario C793TU laptop today, after months of saving, i was finally able to bring home this machine.
First thing I did when i got home, disabled the SATA native support in the BIOS so i could install WinXP using a retail copy that i bought a couple months back.
Everything is fine and dandy untilo I realised that there is NO XP DRIVERS anywhere on this site for this laptop!
Please somebody help? Thank you in advance!

Thanks for the reply Cheryl G.!!! Are the drivers for the Video, Synaptics Touchpad, Ricoh card reader etc correct on the driver download page you gave me? I am assuming that the other drivers for wireless, audio and others you listed are the ones that i should skip. Thnaks again! Downloading now. |

Yes, they worked flawlessly, i just hit a littlw snag installing the atheros wireless thingamabob, i kept picking the wrong model in the driver install pane. I got it right after a few tries though. Its quite difficult to explain it in words though. You'll just have to slog it out until you hit the right one. |

I just bought a Compaq Presario C793TU laptop today as we and trying to get my audio to work. But i could not find "WiSVHe5.inf" from anywhere in ConexantHDAudio 221_XP\XP32.
I only see WiSVHe5 Set up information, but no .inf.
Please help.thanks. |

That file is most likely the one.Do you have file extensions hidden in folder options?If so you won't see the .inf on the end.
Go into Control Panel,Folder Options.Click the View tab and uncheck "hide extensions for known files types".
Now check the file again. |

I have a question though. Should I use the drivers in the first website or should I download all the drivers from the links? How about the utilities like wireless monitor and storage manager? Does it mean that I cannot have those utilities because it did not come from the package that I bought (and HP does not support my laptop model)?

I'm still having problems with my audio driver for C793TU, I was able to install the driver for the audio devices but my sound and audio device properties doesn't detect any medias. I've attached a screenshot of it. Thank you very much in advance :) |

All drivers has been installed (no more Yellow question marks on Device Manager, but the thing is, i realized the MIC isn't working and the wifi light is in amber. Im using XP.
Would appreciate help on these 2 concerns. thank you. |

after long agony of my journey finally succeeded...fixed the smart audio221.....im now working on mic because its not working.....thanks to the the thread starter Timothy te and specially cheryl g for the links......its a big help....just follow all the instrucntion given by cheryl g...try & try until you succeed.......ill be back for the mic update..... |

I've given up on xp and went to vista... all the drivers and software provided in the drivers and software link are all working... I've also asked the retailer why they don't have support for xp. they replied to me that c793tu is made for vista, that's why hp doesn't direct link for xp drivers for c793tu... So far.. vista is working well with this machine, my only complain is... the RAM capacity is only up to 2gb. This machine can't take major 3D renders :( My advice for the people who are having a hard time getting it right to make the drivers work for xp... go with vista and it'll work just fine :) |

I have already installed almost all of the required drivers. i have installed those that are for the wireless network connections. the wifi button and bulb has already turned blue. however, i still can't use wifi. a window that says, windows wireless service isn't working in this computer, will always come out as the diagnosis for why i can't connect to a wireless network. what should i do? thanks |

hi, i just bought Compaq c793TU. my current OS is Windows Vista. I'm planning to change it to Windows XP. I have read this thread and i wonder if i have to download all the drivers for Compaq V6700TX... what are other problems aside from the wifi driver and the mic? |

Hey guys I am having a strange problem when I switch to XP on c793 I have installed all the required driver for audio.Now my laptop speaker is working but when I plug in headphone the laptop speakers don't switch off and at the same time i can hear sound from headphone speaker and laptop speaker. I am very upset don't know what to day plz someone help me i ll be great full to you ..... |

I brought a c793 yesterday and managed to install all drivers and now there are no explanations indicated under device manager, but i believe I'm going through the same problem you did after i had a look at the screen shot photo
1.my sound drivers are installed but there's no sound,
2. my wireless internet light is orange and can't seem to turn it blue(atheros driver installed)
I'm practically stuck where most people are and I don't want to switch to vista like you did,so if there's anybody out there who could help me in just these 2 problems, that would be much appreciated.Thank U |

Hi Everyone,thanks for your help i managed to fix the atheros wireless internet connection, it works but the blue light does not indicate. And i also got the sound working after installing the realtek driver file which is required with the conexante sound driver.
But now i am only left with 1 problem - my sound volume is quite low even though i put full volume. and it is even really low while watching DVD's
If there's anyone whose experiencing this problem please let me know. thanks guys |

Wireless on my C793TU is INTERMITTENT, sometimes it works, sometime not. I'm currently Using a netgear Wireless Dongle to connect to wireless APs. Still looking for a proper driver. |

i already inquire from HP support, also i ask the specs of this memory on to this unit
they give me the table for upgrading the memory of the Compaq C793TU
according to them base on my OS
which is MS Vista 32 bit
it can accomodate up to 4G of memory
i forgot to tell you this
the windows will not recognize the additional memory but if i look into the bios it reflects 3G memory
even it reflects into the bios 3G
i dont find my computer becomes fast
i hope you can help me with this
