I have the PA287A with VGA. Check/enable dual monitors in Display Properties. Use blue Function Keys (Fn+f4) to switch between monitors. If external CRT is used check resolution and refresh rate.
I have an nx8220 and a 6930p and both are working on my PA286A docking station.
The 6930p still has some problems with the LAN port on this docking, but it may also be due to a driver issue on my WinXP Pro installation (currently updating, haven't tested yet) because it ran fine while testing it with Windows Vista Business & Ubuntu 9.04.
Ok, I have again tested my PA286A with the 6930p and can confirm that the LAN port doesn't work with it.
I am currently upgrading from an nx8220 to a 6930p and just tested both machines with the PA286A.
There's a 22" TFT via DVI, 2.1 Creative Loudspeaker set @ audio out, power supply (120W) and a Logitech wireless mouse/keyboard combo via USB - all of them connected to the PA286A and working fine with both machines.
However, when I plug the Ethernet cable on the docking RJ45 socket, LAN doesn't work (WinXP, Ubuntu 9.04). When I plug it in on the 6930p itself, LAN works and the LEDs on the docking RJ45 (LAN) port start working.
So it seems like there's no real signal forwarding from the 6930p LAN port to the LAN port on the docking station as the LAN module seems to expect a signal on the internal LAN port first (~ something like a missing terminator). It's also strange that it then forwards those signal indicators to the external port on the docking while the actual activity is on the internal LAN port.
Imho, three reasons: a) my 6930p has a problem or b) the LAN port on the PA286A isn't compatible with the 6930p LAN port or c) it's an undocumented bug on the LAN module
So as long as it's only the LAN port, I won't upgrade to a modern docking station because it doesn't hurt inserting the LAN cable directly on the machine instead of into the docking. Would be nice though, but hey...HP = high price, hugh problems :-)
Yes, the power button on the PA286A works just as well as the LAN - it was a) - a problem with the docking port on my 6930p which wasn't properly seated. Too much play, not as rock solid as the nx8220.
