Hi everyone.
I have decided to downgrade my Vista computer to an XP one. I have an HP Pavilion a6230n Desktop PC, and I need to know where what drivers I should download.
If anyone can post the link to these drivers it would be much appreciated.
Thanks to anyone that helps me.

Thanks. Sorry I am a bit paranoid but your sure that the drivers for that computer and this one are exactly the same right? Any user think otherwise please post!
Thanks again. |

What John Y has done is find a PC that has the same drivers as yours. Those drivers will work fine.
Why reinvent the wheel?

Can anyone tell me, in semi-detail, how I should go about doing this. Since none of the files on this computer are important to me I don't need to make a backup. I have the recovery disks so if anything goes wrong I can always use those to get it back to factory setting. Anyway, this is what I was going to do.
1. First I was going to put the XP cd in the drive and restart the computer. 2. Then I was going to let it boot from CD and do the XP install.
But once XP is installed what do I do about my drivers? Do I left XP do the auto update stuff then install the drivers? Honestly, I dont even know how to install drivers. Do I have to uninstall old drivers or go into safe mode or something?
Help will be greatly appreciated. |

Hey guys, the info has been great so far for me. However (and although it isn't life threatening), I have yet to find a driver for: PCI simple communications Device.
Is there one available anywhere on the site?
Cheers!

Most of the driver that are non HP will self install.
You just execute them right from your folder that you download them into.
Other drivers like some of HP's may require you to go to a folder on the C drive and execute them.
I would load XP and once it is running go to the Device Manager and see what is missing.
START > Control Panel > System icon > Hardware tab > Device Manager
All devices marked with a yellow tag will need to be added.
I would run the Nvidia chipset and video driver regardless of what you see in the Device Manager though.
After that the sound driver...
I will list them here in order:
chipset nForce 430/410/405/400 - Windows XP/2000 32-Bit -- nForce 430 (also called MCP51)
http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_nf4_winxp32_8.26_11.09.html
Chipset driver includes:
* Ethernet Driver * Network Management Tools * SMBus Driver * IDE SataRAID Driver * IDE SataIDE Driver * RAIDTOOL Application
series 6 Nvidia graphics driver:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_162.18.html
ALC888S http://tinyurl.com/37zg5l
LAN (if needed):
http://tinyurl.com/344mm7
Conexant Systems PCI Soft Modem Driver
http://tinyurl.com/2p5blq
Original HP Multimedia Keyboard/Mouse Drivers
http://tinyurl.com/yubdjs
Then after a reboot, check the device manager and get back with us if something is missing.
For the other who posted the communications PCI controller:
Conexant Systems PCI Soft Modem Driver

The only other driver left would be the UAA... and that would only be needed if your audio does not work...

POINTS?
Points are way of saying thank you to the person that has helped you with your question.
Only the question author can assign points to a given response. If you submit a question or new topic and another member replies to it, you will see a drop down menu (see attached PIC) of points next to the reply (you must be logged in to see the menu). Select the point value and then click the "submit points" button. Note that you can rate multiple replies and submit them at one time. That way you can assign more than 10 points to an individual. If the thread has been closed, the author must reopen the question to submit the points then close it again. |

Sorry to revive an old thread. Followed the tips above, which worked great! Really helped me out of a stressful bind...
However, I apparently still need two drivers...
The PCI Simple Communications Controller (downloaded and installed the file above, and it did not seem to work).
And one, called "Unknown Device", under "Other Devices." Under device properties, I found this device is location: PCI standard ISA Bridge
Sorry I cannot be more detailed...still learning...
Thanks again!

In order to find that missing driver:
Check your device manager.
In XP, you can look up the device name in the device manager.
Control Panel > System (icon) > hardware (tab) > Device Manager
If there is a yellow mark right click it, select Properties, Details tab...
You Will find a string like this one:
PCI\VEN_1102&DEV_0007&SUBSYS
copy and paste the entire string ....
VEN_ is the vendor and DEV_ is the device model number ...
with that string we can get you the proper driver.

Sorry to add to the extra long post but after downgrading to XP on my a6320n, I used all the drivers listed and I seem to be having problems with the graphics. I have 4-bit color and can't change the resolution to anything better than 640x480. Any help to resolve the problem would be greatly appreciated. - G. Smith |
