Hi Kevin,

The PCI communications controller is probably the AMT HECI controller. The serial controller is probably the AMT LMS/SOL controller.

Hope this helps,
Scott

How did you get that far?  I've tried several times, and after setup copies files, when it gets to the point of "Starting Windows...", I get a BSOD.

Someone suggested that it was SCSI drivers.  I'm trying to find out what the SCSI ctlr is, but can't.  If I can't find out what the ctlr is, how can I download the proper drivers, in order to put them on the floppy I need to use at installation time?

I believe that my CD is SP1, so it probably doesn't have what it needs.

What's the secret?

Thanks a bunch,

Tom

P.S. - U guess XP won't work for your drivers, eh?  I only ask because it seems that more than once I've seen that XP & ws2k3 use the same sw, like drivers.

TSmith,

The dc7900 defaults its F10 Setup, Storage, Storage Options, SATA Emulation setting to AHCI mode by default. If you switch it to IDE mode, you can use the native Windows IDE drivers. To leave it in AHCI mode, you will need the Intel AHCI drivers and load them by hitting F6 during the "text mode" portion of the OS setup that asks for additional storage drivers. You can get them here:

Hope this helps,
Scott

I was never able to get all of the drivers loaded for this; So we scrapped the idead and just put gave them a VM box on a server and life is good now.

Good luck in this endeavor.

I am having the same issue, and have downloaded the

drivers suggested in this thread. No luck. If anyone

has successfully installed Windows 2003 or Windows

2008 server on a DC7900, please let me know how you

did it.
-------------------------------
I got 6 brand new DC7900's that originally came with

FreeDOS installed. I tried to install both Windows

XP, and Windows 2003 Server with no luck. So far I

have not been able to install any OS on the

computers. I tried the first computer and there was

an issue, so I thought I would try on another, and

still see the same issues. See below for details:

I checked the BIOS setting for the storage otions,

and it is: SATA Emulation = APCI

I exit the BIOS and put the Windows 2003 Server OS CD

into the drive and boot to it.

When prompted, I hit F6 to install a third party SCSI

or raid driver.

The Windows files begin to install and then when

prompted to set up mass storage device, I select 'S'

to Specify the devices.

I put the floppy with the 32 bit drivers from SP42232

into a USB floppy drive I attached to the computer.

The following list of drivers appears:

Intel (R) ICH8M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller
Intel (R) ICH9R/DO/DH SATA AHCI Controller
Intel (R) ICH9M E/M SATA AHCI Controller
Intel (R) ICH10D/DO SATA AHCI Controller
Intel (R) ICH10R SATA AHCI Controller
Intel (R) ESB2 SATA AHCI Controller
Intel (R) ICH7R/DH SATA AHCI Controller
Intel (R) ICH7M/DH SATA AHCI Controller
Intel (R) ICH8R/ICH9R/ICH10R/DO SATA AHCI Controller
Intel (R) ICH8M-E/ICH9M-E SATA AHCI Controller

The last driver 'Intel (R) ICH8M-E/ICH9M-E SATA AHCI

Controller' was highlighted, so I selected it.

The screen displays 'Setup will load support for the

following mass storage devices 'Intel (R) ICH8M-

E/ICH9M-E SATA AHCI Controller' - I hit Enter and the

files load.

When the screen says it is starting Windows, it

tryies to start and goes to a blue screen that

displays the following message:

A problem has been detetected and Windows has been

shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this

is the first time you've seen this Sop error screen,

restart your computer. If this screen appears again,

follow these steps: Check for viruses on your

computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or

hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make

sure it is properly configured & terminated. Run

CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and

then restart your computer.

Lisa,

The dc7900 uses the ICH10 chipset. Select one of the ICH10 options and see if that works.

Hope this helps,
Scott

Correction in the comment above: The SATA Emulation is set to AHCI, not APCI.

Thanks Scott. I was getting frustrated with this, especially when I called HP support and was told they could not help me if I was not installing Windows XP or Windows Vista.

I ended up using the HP restore CD and loaded the Windows XP OS, and then found out that the actual driver was as you stated the 'ICH10D/DO SATA AHCI Controller'.

Next, I put the Windows 2003 Server DVD in, selected F6, and scrolled to the 'ICH10D/DO SATA AHCI Controller' driver from the USB floppy.

I formatted the partition with the Windows XP OS I just installed and was able to install the Windows 2003 Server to this partition.

Now, I just need to get the NIC, Video, PCI Communications, etc. drivers loaded on the server.

I hope this information helps the next person trying to install Windows 2003 Server on the DC7900! Thanks again for letting me know which driver to choose!!!

It is usually better to start a new thread on the forum...it increases your chances of getting an answer.

Those devices are the Infineon TPM, the HECI controller and the Serial-over-LAN (SOL) controller.

Hope this helps,
Scott
