Vajith, I am having a problem ordering my copy of Windows 7 upgrade. On July 14 I purchased a Compaq 8710W Mobile Workstation which WAS listed on HP's site as eligible for the Windows 7 upgrade. I did not apply at that time because I did not have my serial number with me. I am not trying to apply and it does not reconize my part number and the 8710W is no longer listed as eligible. I am wondering what is the problem as I was told by a HP rep that ANY computer purchased after 6/26 was eligible for the upgrade.

I also googled this problem and found out that I am not the only person with this issue.

Vajith, i have the same issue with registering for windows 7.

I am having a problem ordering my copy of Windows 7 upgrade. On July 9th I purchased a Compaq 8710W Mobile Workstation which WAS listed on HP's site as eligible for the Windows 7 upgrade. Based on this information i purchased the laptop. I am now trying to apply and it does not recognize my part number and the 8710W is no longer listed as eligible. I am wondering what is the problem as I was told by a HP rep that ANY computer purchased after 6/26 was eligible for the upgrade.

I am also having the same problem as the previous poster (actually, the problem IS NOT JUST the Win7 upgrade, there's A LOT MORE of it!).
Anyway, I bought my laptop on July 9th, got it a week later and tried filling out the Win7 upgrade form online on July 16th. At the time, the 8710w WAS ON the list of eligible models, but it would not take my product number.
So, I called HP's Win7 upgrade center and was told to wait up to 5 business days so they can see what's going on.
Yesterday (July 23rd), I noticed that HP removed the 8710w off of the original list of eligible models. I called the HP Win7 center again and was told they are currently updating the list and will get in touch with me next week.
Why was the 8710w removed? Aside from the great deal & great specs, many of us bought this laptop because of the Win7 upgrade eligibility. To remove it and (possibly) deny the upgrade is plain wrong. Please add this model back on this list and allow us to upgrade for free when Win7 rolls out. Thank you.

Same problem as above. I bought the 8710W on July 14, checked and saw that it was eligible for the Win 7, but my product number did not work when I tried to order the new copy.

Yesterday I saw that HP deleted this computer from the eligibility list. I called CS and was told that my computer is no longer eligible for a free upgrade. That should not effect those of us who purchased this computer when it was listed as eligible. To do otherwise is more than a bit underhanded.

I am pretty disappointed with the customer loyalty showed by hp. I recently(in July) purchased an hp 8710w. I only purchased this model, because I believed that hp would provide a free upgrade to windows 7 for this system. My reasoning, was that this model was listed under the eligible models on hp's windows 7 upgrade program. On Sunday, I called hp and asked why my order wasn't going through. They replied that their systems were being updated and to try later in the week. Now, I find that not only is my order still rejected, but the hp 8710w is no longer listed on the eligible models page. The CSR I spoke to informed me that I would need to provide a copy of the page listing the hp8710w as an eligible model. I never thought that hp would remove a model from their list and put the burden on their customers. The CSR told me that my case was being elevated to her supervisor and I would here back in a few days, but no response yet.

I'm in the same position as the other posters on this forum.

I bought the 8710W on July 9 and made sure on the HP website that it was eligible for Windows 7 upgrade before purchasing.

This was the biggest reason why I bought this laptop at that time, I wanted a laptop for Windows 7 and to see it disappear it from the eligibility list recently is quite disheartening. I feel that purchasing a laptop that qualifies for an upgrade and then having it removed after the fact is underhanded. Likewise my model number will not work anymore on the HP Windows 7 upgrade site.

I placed my order on July 9th, received it July 10th. The first thing i did is registering for the upgrade program. There was problem in registeration so i sent them an email. They told me they escalated the problem and to try again in 5 business days.
A week later i got the same issue, emailed them again and got the reply try again in 5 business days.

They didn't tell me it is not eligible simply because it was eligible and was listed in their eligible models website!!!!!!

14 days passed so far and they still tell me "we are working on the issue try again in 5 business days"!!!

I have the same problem. Ordered on July 9th and shipped on July 10th. Called and emailed HP and was told to wait for 5 business days. Two weeks later, still nothing. And now HP removed the 8710W from the list. What is going on?

I have the exact same problem. I purchased two 8710w Mobile Workstations on 7/9/09. They are both Windows Vista Business machines with the Vista Business sticker underneath that includes a product key. Although not advertised as such, both machines had been downgraded to XP Pro. HP has since sent me Windows Vista Business 64 to correct the unrequested XP downgrade. I saw on the Windows 7 Upgrade site that the 8710w Mobile Workstation was listed as being eligible for the upgrade on Wednesday of last week. However when I went to register on Friday, it had been removed from the eligibility list. I'm not sure what happened, but this cannot be right. When I read the eligibility rules, these machines and my purchase date abolutley qualify for the upgrade. It is my opinion that I should be entitled to a capy of Windows 7 Professional 64 bit since I am using Windows Vista Business 64 after HP corrected the XP downgrade for me.

HP, please correct this obvious error.

I purchased a Mini 2140 on June 26, which was then shipped on June 29. At that time, and up until about a week ago, it was listed on the eligibility list. I was also told over the phone at the time of my order that this system is eligible for the free upgrade. Now I try to register for the upgrade and the system doesn't recognize my model number.

Please advise

Hi everyone,

I bought the same laptop 8710W, install vista business 64 bit and went to upgrade windows 7 webpage to order an upgrade kit. Everything went smooth, easy. Just use IE browser follow instructions. The only problem I have is The windows 7 upgrade kit is 32bit and I currently have vista business 64 bit. Shouldn't we get the 64 bit upgrade version?

I'll email hp cs and see what they say. So everyone, just go ahead and place your order :)

to date i have tried 6 different model numbers that should be able to get the free upgrade nad NONE have gone through the system. it only states the model number is not valid.
4 different xw4400 model numbers and 2 different 8510w models all purchased after the beginning date and even called the support number and they are helpless.

I'm also having trouble with the website. I just bought 3 DX7500s HP part # NV453UT#ABA. When I put that part # in the system says it's not eligible but the HP site says that the DX7500s are. I bought them from CDW and I choose my retailer as CDW with the 2-5 computer option.

Thanks mike for the info!!

All I can say this is FALSE ADVERTISING!!

I call this people and they where as unhelpfull as hell, The supervisor actually insunate that I was a minor!! äre you calling on your mom's computer" and I was like what? im 28 years old!!! what a service on HP behalf.

I was trying to make this people understand my case. ALL HP MINI 1101 BUSINESS availible on HP website for purchase comes with preinstalled WinXP there is not an option to get Vista not from the website I try custom configuration before buying, as well as 2140 and 5101, being saying that why all this items listed as eligible for free upgrade products!!?? why HP is relaying on the end user technical issues as the operating systems specially knowing the way you selling the products? if is not eligible then dont listed!! if there any alternative operating systems for the product why you don't make them availible on the time of purchase?? I bought this a week ago, just precisly because it was eligible, believe me I wouldnt choose WINXP with a 10ft stick if there wasnt the only option!!

at the end this two customer service reps didnt do anything else , they actually suggest that I can upgrade my MINI if I bought a copy or win7, im extreamly desapointed by HP customer service, and I hate all my laptops are HP

I need a solution for this ASAP, I refuse to have a new computer with an obsolete operating system

I too have the same problem as the other. I purchased my on October 19,2009 and my 8710w came with only WindowXP installed. No Vista Business CD for me to choose like in the advertising. I felt like this is a scam advertisement. I hope HP will correct this problems.

By the way, we purchased 2 of 8710w at the same time...other one was for my co-worker, we both had the same problem.

I'm really looking forward for Window7 upgrade.

I have still received no reply to my August 10 post. I've called the "Customer Service" number several times in the last month and they are about as helpful as a box of rocks. The only response I can get from them is "We are updating our system, call back tomorrow..." I've called at least 10 times and talked to several different people. They seem willing to help until I tell them that my model number is not working; then they get all flustered and feed me that line about updating their system.

My HP Mini 2140 came with the Vista Business custom downgraded to XP Pro and came bundled with Vista Business DVD. My system should be eligible and was listed on the eligibility list up until about a week after I bought the computer! This is really poor customer relations HP... what is going on and what are you doing to resolve this problem you're causing all your loyal customers?

I am having the same problem as other users. I purchased a HP 2730P from HP Small Business Direct on 10/21/09. This computer came preinstalled with Windows Vista 7 and is eligible for a free Windows 7 upgrade. However, the Windows 7 upgrade site is stating that my product number is invalid. I am extremely frustrated at how much time I am having to spend trying to obtain a Windows 7 upgrade. Why doesn't HP step up to the plate and simply mail out Windows 7 upgrades? HP tech support simply refers me to a third party upgrade website / phone number.

Hi all together,
it is all over the world the same with the upgrade kit. I can't order it. Hp is not a help at all. You only get phone numbers and talk to people who do not know what to do.
The worst of it, you have to pay for the calls.
I got a Win7 from a friend to try update, but no chance. I have to unistall some programms f.e. hp security suite.. but this does not work. Does hp has a recovery cd on basis of Win7 to solve all the problems? It is very disapointing that hp is not better prepared for this.Thank you for your help.

Same problem for me in UK. Arvato does not recognise my product number and seems unwilling to do anything about it. I expect much better than this from HP. It's not good enough simply to outsource the upgrade process and wash you hands of all the problems. Please can someone take responsibility for this and tell me how I can get an upgrade?

I have tried to order my Windows 7 but it has not made it to my house in > 1 month after saying it was shipped. I called the help number and she said she would send me another one to my work address but I don't think that has happened as my home address is still there with the original order and tracking number (which does not work). Please help me!

I too am in the category of ordering an HP2140 that is supposedly eligible for a windows 7 upgrade and the online system is telling me it is not a valid part number. I purchased from a reputable online retailer and in their ad for the machine it said it was eligible. What are we supposed to do to get the upgrade?

Same issue for me with the 2140 - upgrade site doesn't recognize the model number - AS819US#ABA. I have contacted that as well as the retailer we purchased it from. No response at this point.

If you live in the UK and have anyone in your family in full-time education, it might be better to go here:

http://www.software4students.co.uk/Microsoft_Windows_7_Professional_32_bit_Upgrade_Edition-details.aspx

where you can get Windows 7 upgrade for just £36.95.

Tally up one more HP 2140 customer unable to get the upgrade.

The computer meets the eligibility requirements, and was advertised as such.

There seems to be a communication between HP and Arvato, who was subcontracted to take care of upgrade issues. Hopefully this will be worked out soon, since HP customer service seems to be unable to help, and Arvato customer service quite possibly does not exist.

I'm having problems upgrading on my HP G60-441US Notebook. When I insert the Windows 7 disc, and get past the language selections and the license terms and finally get to the Compatibility Report, the Report gives me this:

Upgrading Windows will affect the following devices and/or programs:

These devices might not work properly after the upgrade. Before upgrading, we recommend updating the drivers for these devices. Cancel the upgrade, open Control Panel and search for "update device drivers", or go to the device manufacturer's website to search for updated drivers.

-Keyboard Filter

Anyone know how to fix this? I downloaded a BIOS Update and a Quick Launch Buttons Update, as an HP Support Specialist told me to, but I still can't upgrade.

On the 2140 - I did finally get a response from Avarto saying they would escalate, and could take up to 3 week. We'll see what happens. I'll post as soon as I hear.

Also went back to the retailer who blew me off and said "sorry for the confusion but that model isn't elibigle", even though it is and their web says it is.

I purchased my 8530w-Notebook (FU463EA#UUZ) which is eligible for the free Windows 7 upgrade shortly before the release of W7. As a product of the business line it came with Vista Business 32Bit and Vista Business 64Bit DVDs (each in 9 languages) as well as four Windows XP Pro-CDs (different language versions).

The main problem:
If I try to order the update online, I'm directed to the website of a company (neither HP nor Microsoft, but "arvato/Bertelsmann") that wants me to choose either the 64Bit OR 32Bit version and only one language version.
I actually need the 64Bit-version for addressing the 4GB RAM (and maybe more later) in my PC, but currently still have external hardware without 64Bit drivers, so I currently do need the 32Bit-version as long as I have to use that hardware.
The limitations concerning the languages are less severe, but still annoying for anybody who considers moving abroad soon.

The second problem is not a big issue, but still annoying for any customer who bought his HP computer just some weeks before the W7-release:
arvato actually charges 30€ (!!!!) for shipping the "free upgrade", which is ridiculous considering that I live in Switzerland (not Antarctica....).

It seems that on the one hand Arvato is not really competent to carry out such an upgrade program and on the other hand HP completely ignored that their Business Product customers (who buy Vista laptops with XP-downgrade etc.) have different demands on their products than the average Pavillion-buyer (who probably never reinstalls an OS anyway).

Did anyone here succeed in getting the promised W7-upgrade for all the OS-Versions (architectures/languages) that they bought with their PC? I tried to contact arvato by mail and called verious service numbers but nobody could help me there.

I have to admit I didnt know a cd would cost £21.99 to be shipped from Germany...why didnt hp just implement a download site ?

£21.99 for a CD is a total rip off had no choice tho ....

I purchased a Compaq 8710w Mobile Workstation on 29 Aug 2009. I am running Vista Business OEM 64-bit. I also saw the model number disappear from the eligible model list. I would appreciate something of a reason for the change. It is a great machine and works well, but I would like to be able to maintain a reasonable levle technical parity. Should the eligibility be reinstated, please consider this to be a request for the upgrade kit.
