Which XP are you using? SP2 or SP3?

You need to check the instalation of MS-UAA.
Check in Device Manager under System Devices to see if MS UAA installed properly.

There should be a listing for Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio.

The MS-UAA update of KB888111 is for XP SP-2, while KB835221 is for XP SP-3. Please do NOT installed both.

I already install winxp in CQ40(AMD chipset) and successful n no problem. but went i install with the same windows cd in CQ40 (Intel chipset) got a problem with the UAA driver. Even i install only UAA driver after installing the windows it still got problem. The audio, hdmi n modem gone afer i install the UAA n restart the windows. Somebody please help me to get 'special edition' of UAA driver. i think the major problem is the UAA driver.

Thank you.

Hi Arkhariquan Awang

This is a good news.
Did you use drivers posted above?
Please post which drivers of Audio and Modem are you using.

Which XP are you using? SP2 or SP3?
Did you streamline any hotfix kbxxxx?

After restart, with audio, hdmi and modem gone, go to your device manager, navigate to system manager, right click MS-UAA, then disable and enable it. Will the audio and modem restored?

If it so, there is a workaround to solve it.

Did anybody try to install the driver from Dell? I just look around in Dell driver site and found that got few models also use IDT sound. And the drivers just post on August 2008. Maybe you all can go to URL below and try the sound driver from Dell in Windows XP version. The Dell model is Latitude E5400.

Hi Omar Khayam Abdullah,

The workaround solution is not the "true solution", it would just make an automatic disable and enable the MS-UAA by using a DevCon command-line utility functions.
Here:
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B311272&x=17&y=10

see kamicat post here:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=281286&page=7

As mention above it was just a temporary solution.

Users of DV7T are using sp39457 for their IDT audio (the same hardware as CQ40 and CQ45), but still not in a perfect conditions.
If anyone would like to try sp39457, you may download it here:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp39001-39500/sp39457.exe

While users (posted by JoshuaWood)of DV5T are using VISTA pre-installed driver in their c:\swsetup\drivers\audio\setup.exe.

see here in this forum:
http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/bizsupport/questionanswer.do?threadId=1263862

and here
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=291787

They do NOT have to restart MS-UAA after reboot. So, the main key is IDT sound driver NOT MS-UAA.

If any users of CQ40 and CQ45 bought notebook with VISTA pre-installed, please upload your sound driver.
or
you may try installing dell driver that may used the same IDT sound chip as pointed by Cheah Kean Sheng.

Good Luck

Sep 25, 2008 04:21:56 GMT    Unassigned

Hi Rakhmad Siregar,

Okay, here's what I did:

I installed the sp39457 -- It worked, but after I disabled and re-enabled the MS UAA Bus Driver for HD Audio System device. As others have pointed this out, I'd have to do it again every time the notebook is turned on.

I did download the Vista drivers for CQ40-101TU and it doesn't work.

I did also try the Dell driver as pointed out earlier in this thread. It didn't work as well.

I quite disagree that the issue is not MS-UAA. Since it didn't detect any Audio/Modem devices at all. And that is even before I attempted to install the drivers for those two devices. It initially led me to think that the notebook doesn't have any sound at all.

It seems that I have to resort to the workaround solution for the time being.

Thank you all for the solutions.

Hi Min Arcilla,

You must Update bios to F.11C if you want this this error.
This is file Bios Update: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=V44VJTOO or http://www.canthotourist.net/BiosCQ40-F.11C.rar.
Notes: Update bios in DOs 7.1 and with Flash.bat command. Plug Adapter when update bios.

dear all,
solution to the problem is simple.actually the msuaa service has a conflict with the latest express 4 chipset and wont' restart automatically on reboot.so following is a workaround.
check the hardware id of the msuaa

download devcon.exe utility from microsoft
link: http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/1/f/11f7dd10-272d-4cd2-896f-9ce67f3e0240/devcon.exe

create a .bat file with following entry
DEVCON.EXE RESTART "PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_293E&SUBSYS_3607103C&REV_03"
here PCI\~ is the hardware id of your msuaa in my cq-40 133tu its the one given above
put this file in startup or registry
and its done.
every time your system start it will restart the msuaa automatically and you won't have to do anything. my working patch is attached

hi everyone, i agree this should be IDT sound driver problem, not the MS UAA with the chipset conflict problem. Cause i try do the same thing with CQ20 which is have the chipset family works great with ADI sound max sound driver, no problem at all. Problem is, where to find the exact IDT sound driver. Using DEVCON just a temporary, and makes startup more slower.

anyone knows where to locate the true sound driver ?

thanks

once running the msuaa the yellow pci device will not pick it up, so you have to manually update the msuaa just do a driver update of the device it will pick up the msuaa automatically.again this will not find the audio driver so you have to go to device manager, system devices tab and restart the msuaa by uninstalling and scanning for new hardware. this time it will find three audio devices which are
1> your idt audio
2> your modem
2> hdmi driver which is placed in the hdmi folder of your intel vga driver

The driver of idt audio can be downloaded from the following site

http://translate.google.co.in/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fbenyouhui.it168.com%2Fviewthread.php%3Ftid%3D817269&sl=zh-CN&tl=en&hl=en&ie=UTF-8

or if you know chinese

http://benyouhui.it168.com/viewthread.php?tid=817269

please get in touch for any further clarification as i have solved this problem and made a patch also you can send me a mail for that patch also

I dont have CQ models, so I dont know, however, for older model i.e V3700 and dv9000, (Phoenix BIOS).
I did flash the BIOS with XP as OS even tough the release note writes it for VISTA.

The new HP models use Insyde BIOS. I have very little knowledge about this BIOS.

My best suggestion is do NOT play around with BIOS, install VISTA and flash the BIOS. That would not take a long time.

Good luck

We flashed the BIOS from F.12 to F.14 in XP on CQ40133TU. it worked fine. no problems. It looks like the BIOS flash utility is independent of OS as it works on hex(Machine language) level bypassing the OS or BIOS calls.

Just exactly where did you get this information from? The other manufacturers, such as Acer, do not have this problem using the SAME chipset. They do not have to impliment a Devcon.exe workaround.

No, IMHO this problem has been demonstrated to be in the BIOS as shown by those few who were able to install F.11c and although HP has updated the BIOS 3 or 4 times since then they still have not fixed it, perhaps because they do not see it as a problem if your using Vista ;-)
