I use wireless a lot, last week it was fine, I go to use it over the weekend and the green icon says wireless is already on, but the LEDs are not flashing, nor is it green.
I performed no upgrades etc, and have no idea why it has failed.
Anyhow, upgraded rom to the new 1.10.10, also tried the new drivers and firmware for wireless, but although the driver installed it doesnt report an update in asset viewer, firmware reports a blank space, and the MAC address is either a blank space or 00-00-00-00 etc
HP figured it was firmware, but feel they need to see it, also saying they have not heard of the problem, even though this forum reports this issue a million times.
HP are sending for my device probably tomorrow - i'll be 5 days with out my device! :-(
Has anybody actually solved this issue them selves?... or is it (as it seems) a hardware issue? (Is it as popular issue as it seems - as people dont always say they resolved the issue)

1) Softreset your iPAQ. 2) Take your Battery out, and press the softrest five times (Slowly). 3) Put the Battery in, and press the Softreet one time (Slowly). 4) Try it, if this still comeout with the problem, do the HARD RESET, this should correct everything. 5) If Hard Reset still does not work, then, it is the Hardware problem! 6) Call HP and ship it to them ASAP.
Yes, Christian, I had exact same problem. I eventually sent mine to HP and they put in a new M/B, WLAN and ANT. When I got it back, it still was having serious problems but spoke to someone in HP in Ireland and they suggested I re-install the following in this order:- 1. ROM upgrade 1.10 2. Firmware upgrade (SP25826.exe) 3. Update driver for WLAN WPA etc. 4.3.5.414 (SP27595.exe) see my note below on this. 4. WLAN firmware 1.103.5.164 (SP27605.exe). Things started working then although I am still having difficulty seeing a WPA A/P. Can see a regular and WEP fine now.
Note on installing 4.3.5.414. When I first started updating ROM and drivers (before shipping to HP), I discovered in order to install Firmware 1.103.5.164, it was necessary to first install lower version of WLAN driver 3.2.4.133 (SP27632.exe). Otherwise, if I installed 4.3.5.414 first, I kept getting error message when installing firmware that Softpaq WLAN driver 3.2.4.133 or higher version was necessary to install 1.103.5.164. Why it didn't recognise 4.3.5.414 as higher than 3.2.4.133 is a mystery to me. So it was suggested to me by someone on active chat to remove the higher version of 4.3.5.414 and re-install 3.2.4.133, then install the firmware 1.103.5.164, then remove 3.2.4.133 and install 4.3.5.414 and then re-install firmware 1.103.5.164.
PS. Don't forget that when installing some of these, you must finish with a soft reset - follow the instructions carefully!! Good luck and let us know how you get on. Jim
I was just thinking again about the order I did these in before getting to work. It was more like the following:- 1. ROM 1.10 (SP27674.exe) (you could probably skip this one if already upgraded successfully) 2. install lower version WLAN driver ie. 3.2.4.133 (SP27632.exe). 3. install WLAN Firmware 1.103.5.164 (SP27605.exe), 4. Firmware upgrade Version 1.00.18 (SP25826.exe) 5. Remove WLAN driver 3.2.4.133 and install 4.3.5.414 (SP27595.exe) (remove should be done automatically when installing later version of 4.3.5.414 but remember to finish the install after the removal!) and 6. then re-install WLAN firmware 1.103.5.164
Things started working after this series of installs.
Also, do you have ActiveSync 3.7? and in guest partnership while doing these installs?
PS. Again, Don't forget that when installing some of these (i think all except the firmware upgrade 1.00.18), you must finish with a soft reset - follow the instructions carefully!!
Yes, Jim is quite right on the order of installation. ROM can be installed again to refresh all the standard windows drivers, followed by either the firmware driver (in this case, the WLAN) and the firmware update and followed by any other misc. drivers.
* Now when I did this on the working ipaq the firmware did not say 0.0.0.0 it actually had a number. * If i press start update anyway, i get the following error:
Error (ok) Please, reset this device. And re-run this application called 'WLAN ROM Update' from the Start Menu
Christian, I got exactly same thing ie.about running WLAN ROM Update from start menu before sending away IPAQ. as I said, they replaced M/B, WLAN and ANT and problem went away. I would vote it is a H/W problem. But that's just my 2 cents ;-))
My 5450 has had this problem in the past. THen it started working and just recently it stopped working again. The only strange thing I've done to it recently is do my first hard reset in a long time.
