I have 2 brand new 8510p with xp. Both units are doing the same thing - vpu recovery. I installed lastest drivers from hp. that cleared up error messages in the event log from start up. however I still get vpu recovery messages and eventually ablank screen requiring reboot or blue screen and auto reboot. Anyone know what is up? |

I have the same problem on XP.
I've updated with the latest drivers from HP and also tried direct from ATI - still crashes.
HP have replaced the system board - still crashes.
So HP - lots of people are reporting this issue, do you know what is wrong? |

Hi Neil,
I have the same issue. When it crashed a report was generated so I sent this report to smartsave@ati.com per instruction. I also asked HP support but it seems that they don't know what is going on. I am thinking of sending this back to HP if no immediate solution available. I will talk to my IT expert in the office and make decision from there. Good luck to you! |

I found mention of this in another thread in this forum. There was a link to an article about AMD having a QA glith that allow 20-30K boards to be shipped with an error in the BIOS application process. AMD has fixed their process but there was no mention of how those who already have failing units are to proceed. Seems like HP should know about this as many are sending back units for "bad" vid boards. The link www.engadget.com/tag/Hd2600/ I have found nothing official on either HP or AMD/ATI sites but will be talking to HP today. |

I have had the same problem my company bought 5 of these laptops and out of the 5 we have noticed this problem with 3 of them. The other 2 are not used very often so most likely they also have the same problem. I have called HP also and they are suppose to call me back in the next 24 to 48 hours so I will keep everyone updated with there solution.
Have ran all the updates and all the little fixes which I have found on line by uninstalling the CCC and installing the new HP patch but that doesn't seem to fix the problem. I am at a loss for the problem and just talking with an HP individual he has transfered me to the hardware section of HP which is not a good thing when it comes to a computer which you buy brand new.
I got a funny feeling we will be sending them back for a different model. :) |

I have 3 new 8510p units 2 purchased and 1 hp owned on loan to me as demo. The demo which I loaded xp on works the 2 purchased units were pre-installed with XP both have the vpu problem. I was evaluating this model for a larger purchase. I am now working with both my sales reps and support. Both have escalated this. So for all escalation has produced is phone tag. I was sent a beta bios to try which did not fix the problem. Interesting to note the working unit has an older bios F.05 vs F.08. I will update here if I get any resolution |

I installed the new BIOS(F.0C 20/12/07) last night - so far so good - I'm about to turn my laptop over to my nephews to watch DVDs for a little more of a stress test. So far, my reproducible system crashes & occasional black screen crashes are gone.
Hopefully this stable behaviour will continue & I won't have to return the machine. |

Well it did not help for me. Still same crashes with VPU Recovery forcing me to reboot. That happens in XP with the latest driver from HP. |
